5girlsinaboat …and a bloke! Raising money for The Ellen MacArthur Trust
The idea to put together an all girl team to compete in global
adventurous race events to raise money for Cancer related projects came
about in 2003 when the Project Manager, Susan Rutter, was recovering
from Chemotherapy and Surgery for Breast Cancer. 5girlsinaboat is a
registered charity with Lady Pippa Blake as their Patron. Pippa was the
wife of the late sailor and environmentalist Sir Peter Blake who was
killed by bandits in the mouth of the River Amazon in 2001. This
unique project embraces; team work; motivation; enthusiasm; success;
commitment and trust - 5girlsinaboat have completed a successful first
two years of their project, keeping project costs to a minimum to
maximise the donations to their beneficiaries. In 2006 5girlsinaboat
will be entering the Sevenstar Round Great Britain and Ireland Race.
The team is currently competing in 500 miles of RORC offshore racing to
qualify for entry for the race. If you would like to find out more
about 5girlsinaboat or if you would like to make a donation to their
fundraising, please visit: www.5girlsinaboat.org
