Little Britain Challenge Cup presents The Ellen MacArthur Trust with a cheque for £41,294

The Ellen MacArthur Trust received a huge fundraising boost yesterday (18/03/08) when the Little Britain Challenge Cup (LBCC) presented us with a cheque for £41,294 raised during their 2007 sailing regatta.

The cheque was presented to Trust Manager Frank Fletcher by Peter Thompson, one of the founders of the event and the Head of Charities and Finance, and LBCC Chairman Sarah Ashworth, at the Royal Yacht Squadron, Cowes.

LBCC, established in 1988, has grown to become the biggest annual sailing regatta in England after Skandia Cowes Week, and is easily the largest European Industry event.  Aimed at the construction industry, LBCC is all about the taking part and having fun rather than winning, with a big emphasis on fundraising for various UK sailing charities.  Yesterday LBCC also made presentations to its other Island-based charities, Cowes Sea Cadets, Island Youth Water Activity Centre,  Cowes Inshore Lifeboat and St Johns Ambulance IW.  The total amount donated to island charities was £58,794 with over £160,000 donated to charity overall from LBCC's 2007 event.

Frank Fletcher said "The Ellen MacArthur Trust are grateful to receive support from such a prestigious event as LBCC and this generous donation will make a huge difference to us .  We will now be able to work with new hospitals in 2009 and in doing so give the opportunity to sail to many more young people who would never have experienced it before, building their confidence and forming lasting friendships.“
