Race 2 - Day 2 : A quiet start

They may only be in the first 24 hours of a three week race but there's already a difference in tactics emerging. The main pack are heading due West but New York has opted for a more southerly route and Jamaica have taken the more northerly option.

Race 2 - Salvador here we come.....

In contrast to the 42 knots gusting down the Mersey last weekend, Race 2 started off La Rochelle in a pleasant 7-10 knots at 14:00 GMT today. Dan has moved onto Jamaica for the 3 week leg to Salvador in Brazil and was in good spirits before the start, eager to get on with it !

Dan's Blog: La Rochelle

The start was amazing loads of people came to see the race start for the round the world race, the crew all had jobs for the start and the skipper gave me the job of being the helmsman that ment that i was steering the boat and at the start of a race when rounding a mark the boats get really close and it was my job not to crash! lol it was a big responsibility and i really enjoyed it!

EMT Ambassdor prepares for Trans Alantic

Dan is presently in La Rochelle preparing for the start of Race 2 on Sunday that will see him cross the Atlantic. Dan will be joining the crew on Jamaica for the next leg of the race. Dan has set up a just giving page and is raising money for the Phillip Green Memorial Trust who are a charitable organization which helps sick and disabled children all over the UK and overseas and without who Dan's voyage would not have been possible and The Ellen MacArthur Trust for whom he is an ambassador.

Liverpool 08 and EMT Ambassador clinch 2nd place

Liverpool 08 and EMT Ambassador Dan Monk clinched 2nd place closely followed by Glasgow: Scotland with style Clipper in 3rd at the end of Race 1 in the Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race. Following Hull & Humber’s commanding victory on Wednesday evening, this means that the UK entries in Clipper 07-08 have swept the board for the three podium positions.

Hannah Jenner and her crew on Glasgow: Scotland with style Clipper had cut Liverpool 08’s lead down to less than three miles at the finish but ran out of time to catch the Liverpudlians to threaten their 2nd place.

Hull and Humber take first place

Hull and Humber have taken first place in Race 1 of the Clipper 07/08 race. Latest positions suggest that EMT Ambassador and the crew of Liverpool 08 will have one night more night at sea before reaching the finish line. The 06.00 positions this morning show that Liverpool 08 and EMT Ambassdor Dan Monk are 97 miles from the finish of the first Leg in La Rochelle and lying in second place, as the wind lightens it could be a interesting day! Ellen MacArthur Trust Ambassdor Dan Monk takes the helm as he set sails from Liverpool

Today  Ellen MacArthur Trust Ambassador Dan Monk set sail from Liverpool for the start of the 35,000-mile Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race. Dan who started the race onboard the 68-foot monohull “Liverpool 07/08” will race with nine other boats all sailing with an amateur crew, and a professional skipper.  The first leg will see Dan take centre stage as he helms his boat the 610 miles to the port of La Rochelle, with the fleet due to arrive on Wednesday 19 September.

Six hours to go.....

In just under six hours EMT Ambassador Dan Monk will cross the start line of the Clipper 07/08 race. Dan spent yesterday making final preparations with his Skipper and Crew before spending the evening with friends and family. Our founding patron is in Liverpool to see Dan off and presented him with his own Slinky identical to the one that kept Ellen company on B and Q when she set the record for the fastest single handed circumnavigation.
