Race 9 Day 4; Santa Cruz to Panama

The Clipper Round the World Race fleet are well on their way to Panama, racing down the western coast of the States. They have been experiencing fast downwind conditions up until now and there has been the odd spinnakar wrap reported! – not aboard Nova Scotia we are glad to hear!

Conditions have slowed down over the last 24hrs and are set to continue to do so as the fleet moves further South. This will mean lots of sail changes, trimming and tactical decisions.

EMT ambassador Dan Monk is aboard Nova Scotia who made a cunning tactical decision in the last leg, which put them on the podium and we are waiting to see if they can pull the same off in this leg. They currently have just under 2500 knm to go so there is lots to play for.

Race 9 day 1; Santa Cruz to Panama

Dan Monk EMT Ambassador has remained onboard Nova Scotia so we will be following their progress with anticipation after their fantastic result into Santa Cruz.

The fleet of the Clipper round the world race started at 1300 local (2000 GMT) with the Californian sun shining and ten knots of breeze from the North West. There was lots of jostling on the line as the yachts fought for the best position at the start of the 3,116 Knm leg down to Panama.

Dan has sailed with the Trust since 2003, coming back year after year despite a relapse. Eventually qualifying as a Yachtmaster and working for the trust last year as a skipper. Funding for Dan to take part in this historic race has come in the form of Philip Green memorial trust and JP Morgan Asset Management. Dan is hoping to raise 25p for every mile sailed please click here to donate.

Nova Scotia take Second Position!!

Uniquely Singapore clinched victory over EMT ambassador Dan Monk and the Crew aboard Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia were still in first place with 15knm to go however the wind died and Uniquely Singapore were in a more favourable position which allowed them to sneak ahead.

Dan spoke to Frank yesterday afternoon and it seems spirits are high aboard  Nova Scotia with everyone happy to be in Santa Cruz.

Skipper of Nova Scotia, Rob McInally said, “Absolutely fantastic, the team has been amazing, even when we were trying to keep first place and finished in second.  It’s been a really good race, from being first across the start line in Hawaii to finishing in a podium position.”

Race 8 day 12; Still in the lead with 15knm to go!!

The last report at 0749 from the Clipper office puts EMT ambassador Dan Monk and the crew of Nova Scotia still in the lead with only 15knm to go to Santa Cruz. That should mean that they should be finishing in the next hour or so.

The latest report from the boat seems to indicate they are all very busy changing sails and keeping boat speed to a maximum to keep second placed yacht Uniquely Singapore at bay.

Please visit the Clipper round the world site for upto date positioning.

Race 8 day 11; Nova Scotia still in Pole Position!

We are all waiting with baited breath to see who wins this leg of the Clipper round the world race. We are all routing for current leaders; EMT ambassador Dan Monk and the rest of the crew aboard Nova Scotia, where it is reported that some of the crew members are having difficulty sleeping because of the adrenaline pumping through their veins!!!

Positioning themselves further North has put them in more favourable conditions as they approach Santa Cruz, better wind angle and faster speeds and only 275 knm to go! - fingers crossed.

Dan is hoping to raise 25p for every mile sailed.

Race 8 day 10; Nova Scotia move into first place!!

We are delighted to announce that Nova Scotia are now leading the Clipper round the world fleet by 9 miles! EMT Ambassador Dan Monk joined Nova Scotia in Hawaii and we have heard from him on board;

‘ it has been a steady couple of days with boat speeds of around 10knots and sunshine I have been learning more on the weather and planning a route using onboard computers’

Well it looks like he has been taught well as over the weekend they decided to make a tactical move North and this has paid off massively, they are now in front with favourable conditions forecast to the finish – expected sometime on Thursday!  For more information please visit www.clipperroundtheworld.com

Race 8 day 6

Life is still at an angle in the Clipper race, the crews have been experiencing between 20 and 30 knots of headwinds since they departed Hawaii at the weekend. Although this can be exciting sailing it can be damp and makes life difficult to manoeuvre down below, we get the feeling that a return to sunny down wind sailing would be a welcome one!

It seems it is still a very close race out in the Pacific with EMT ambassador Dan Monk and the rest of the crew on Nova Scotia only 27 knm from the lead boat. Positions are changing all the time; the upwind conditions can mean that there are lots of tactical decisions to be made in order to come out in front.

Nova Scotia Moves up the Leader board

The Clipper fleet are approximately 1700 knm South West of Santa Cruz and are currently experiencing moderate headwinds. However forecasts predict what we are sure will be a welcome change, a more favourable wind direction which should see boat speeds increasing towards Santa Cruz.

It appears the whole fleet have been affected by seasickness but are now beginning to recover and settle back into life onboard.

Overnight saw Dan Monk and his crew aboard Nova Scotia climb the leader board to fourth position despite difficult conditions with shifting winds and squalls.

The fleet raced along the shore before heading out to the Pacific to battle it out for 2,080 knm before finishing the race in Santa Cruz, California.
